Group School of Philadelphia and union attain tentative deal, averting strike

The Group School of Philadelphia and the union representing college and employees reached a tentative settlement on a brand new contract, hours earlier than a strike was scheduled to start.

The settlement contains important wage will increase, extra staffing, smaller class sizes and free transportation for college kids, in response to the union’s launch. 

“We confirmed what can occur when college, employees and college students stand in actual solidarity with one another,” Union Co-President Rainah Chambliss mentioned in a launch from the union, AFT Native 2026.

AFT Native 2026 represents round 1,200 members, together with full-time college, adjunct professors and employees. It has been working with out a contract since final August, and bargaining between the school and the union had been ongoing for 14 months, in response to the union. 

A strike authorization vote earlier this month noticed 97% of collaborating members in favor of the motion. Union members deliberate to start the strike at 7 a.m. this morning if a deal had not been reached. 

CCP has mentioned on its web site that immediately’s courses, work and actions are happening as scheduled.

“Our membership represents everybody from the lowest-paid labeled worker to the highest-paid college member, and all of our members caught collectively to battle for one another and the widespread good,” AFT2026 Co-President Junior Brainard mentioned.

Members of the union are set to vote on the tentative settlement subsequent week.
