Independence park and native FAA workplace caught in federal firing spree

The Trump administration’s mass firings of federal employees have reached the Philadelphia space, with two workers dismissed at Independence Nationwide Historic Park and a minimum of one at an area Federal Aviation Administration workplace, based on union officers.

On the nationwide park, which was already working about 30 employees under its budgeted staffing, two latest hires — each park rangers — obtained termination notices late final week, and numerous deliberate hirings have been rescinded.

The favored park was already missing sufficient rangers, guides, and upkeep and security employees to function at full power, mentioned Edward Welch, a ranger on the park and president of Native 2058 of the American Federation of Authorities Staff.

“We’re in a gap. As it’s now, half the historic constructions are closed,” Welch mentioned. “If this continues, I can’t fathom what different constructions we’re going to want to shut, as a result of we are able to’t operate on a wing and a prayer. We’re naked bones.”
