Tivoli Books shines mild on forgotten literature

Daniel Akst has a mission: to deliver renewed consideration to Philadelphia’s wealthy literary heritage. He serves as writer of Tivoli Books, based in 2024 to revive unjustly forgotten literature and publish new works missed by mainstream publishing. 

A former Philadelphia resident himself, Akst lately introduced the reissue of 4 novels from a collection by the late Arthur R. G. Solmssen, a Philadelphia lawyer and novelist whose works vividly painting town’s authorized and social world from the Nineteen Sixties by the ‘80s.

The primary Tivoli launch is The Consolation Letter, a pointy authorized drama that explores moral challenges and town’s complicated social material. Akst selected it as a robust entry level to reintroduce Solmssen’s work, with plans to comply with it up quickly with Alexander’s Feast.

Tivoli Books is headquartered in Akst’s house in Tivoli, N.Y., and runs with a small, devoted crew that features his spouse as copy editor. This setup permits Akst to protect the agility of a small press whereas passionately publishing high quality and entertaining literature.
